In-house
*Nominated for “Outstanding Graphic Design” at the 47th News & Documentary Emmy® Awards.
This Bloomberg documentary revealed the dark history and local impact of South Sudan’s oil industry.
Crafted animation was created to visualize abstract ideas and emotional scenes, through a simulated hand-drawn style. These graphics were designed to deliver impactful visuals while leaving enough space for the audience to process the heavy reality of these true events.

Animated shots were carefully crafted and refined to convey the heavy emotional weight of the story. The goal was to translate the narrative and key messages into GFX scenes that set the right atmosphere.
GFX SHOTS
“hand-drawn” style
We started by creating base footage with 3D models/ reference shots. Then we brought them into AE for animation+editing. After that, we applied a frame-by-frame hand-drawn treatment in PS to create the unique crafted style. Finally we bring it back into AE for post-effects.
